Professional Development for Formal/Informal Educators, April 4-5, 2014
Professional Development in the new classrooms

This Workshop will be implemented on Friday, April 4, 2014 from 5 p.m.-8:00 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies-Center for Marine Education and Research (IMMS-CMER) in Gulfport, MS.

During the one- and a half day Workshop, formal/informal educators will hear from experts on two of the following topics: ocean acidification, sea level rise, greenhouse gases, or ozone depletion. Educators will also participate in a hands-on activity following the presentations which they may choose to use in their classroom.

A $100 stipend is available to the first 20 registrants. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered; however, these CEU costs must be paid by the participant and/or his/her school district. Certificates of Participation will also be provided to each formal/informal educator. Participants will be required to respond to pre- and posttests and a Likert-scale evaluation for stipend eligibility and receipt. Educators will also be directed toward additional curricular resources and information related to Climate Change activities as well as the Ocean and Climate Defender website.
